Reception Saturday October 16 2-5 pm

Open weekdays 8-4

From the Press Release:

A one-person show of photographs and mixed media by Berendina Buist will lead off the gallery season in the Hostetter Gallery. Many of the pieces feature photographic images in sequence, analogous to frames in a movie. The show also includes an actual film and two freestanding sculptures. The work explores images of fluidity and change both in time and state of mind.

Among other themes in the show and in a recent series of photographs, Ms. Buist has been exploring scars and how people react to scarring of their bodies. One major piece entitled “Healing Body” is the latest work in this series and is part of the show. The subject of “Healing Body” is a woman who has undergone a mastectomy. This piece sensitively and powerfully expresses the subject’s response to the physical changes to her body. This work will provide an opportunity for valuable learning and discussion. We understand that some individuals might be uncomfortable with these images, and visiting this show is voluntary. There is a written explanation accompanying the piece.

Ms. Buist has lived for many years in the Netherlands and Italy as well as in the United States. She feels she is living “between cultures” which gives her multiple perspectives that are reflected in her work. “Still in Motion” will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday
from September 13-October 26.
